Videowall Implementation for Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM)

Client : Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) | Project Date : 19-Jun-2022

Bukit Aman – The Heart of Royal Malaysia Police Headquarters

Videowall Control Center upgrades have played a crucial role in enhancing the operational efficiency of Bukit Aman, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) headquarters. Located strategically in Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Aman—formerly known as Bukit Ayang—is a high-security compound that houses vital departments responsible for national security.

Bukit Aman, a metonym commonly used to refer to the headquarters of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), is among the most crucial and secure government facilities in the country. Perched on a strategic hill in Kuala Lumpur that was originally known as Bukit Ayang, the area was later renamed Bukit Aman, which translates to “Peace Hill.” The name itself reflects the role the facility plays in ensuring peace, order, and national security. The hill is now home to a collection of highly secure buildings, serving as the central operations point for multiple departments under PDRM.

This location not only symbolizes strength and leadership in Malaysia’s law enforcement landscape, but it also serves as the beating heart of the country’s internal security network. It is where top-level decisions are made and national strategies are executed to maintain public safety and tackle crime across the nation.

The Role of Bukit Aman in National Security Operations

As the central command center for PDRM, Bukit Aman performs a vital role in managing and overseeing national security operations. Within the complex, each department — including Criminal Investigation, Narcotics, Counter-Terrorism, Commercial Crimes, Internal Security, and more — operates from its dedicated headquarters. These departments work closely together to maintain law and order throughout Malaysia.

Moreover, Bukit Aman houses intelligence-gathering facilities, secure operation centers, digital forensic labs, and crisis management units that form the backbone of Malaysia’s public safety infrastructure. These departments rely heavily on technology and coordination to respond to incidents and threats swiftly and effectively.

One of the most vital components of the complex is the Malaysia Control Centre (MCC), which operates as a national-level command and control facility. The MCC plays an indispensable role in managing real-time operations, monitoring critical events, and enabling swift inter-agency communication during emergencies or complex law enforcement activities.

Project Background: Upgrading the Videowall Control Center

To further enhance Bukit Aman’s operational readiness and technological capabilities, a strategic upgrade was undertaken with the supply and commissioning of a new videowall control center. This initiative was aimed at providing real-time situational awareness, improving visual coordination, and strengthening command and control functions across multiple departments.

The videowall control center now serves as a centralized display system that enables officers and analysts to monitor multiple sources of live data simultaneously. It helps visualize CCTV feeds, crime heat maps, nationwide alerts, and intelligence data across a unified visual platform, making decision-making faster and more precise.

Supplied Equipment and Technology Overview

As part of the solution, a robust 4×2 videowall system featuring 75-inch high-resolution panels was installed. These ultra-narrow bezel displays offer seamless visuals across multiple screens, ensuring an uninterrupted and immersive viewing experience. The large video display surface is essential for showcasing multiple sources of data, which is critical during high-stakes operations and surveillance.

A key component of the system is the Polywall Controller, a powerful video wall management platform that enables operators to control content layouts dynamically, switch sources instantly, and manage large-scale display environments with intuitive ease. With this system, critical data can be organized and prioritized for maximum operational impact.

Additionally, the upgrade included a video conferencing system and an integrated audio system to facilitate secure internal communication, multi-agency meetings, and virtual coordination with field teams or regional command posts. These enhancements have significantly improved inter-departmental collaboration.

Key Benefits of the Videowall Control Center

The deployment of the videowall control center at Bukit Aman brings numerous operational benefits:

  • Enhanced Monitoring Capabilities: Access to real-time visuals from multiple sources ensures a comprehensive view of unfolding events.

  • Centralized Command Operations: Different departments can collaborate more efficiently by sharing visual data and updates on a single platform.

  • Efficient Resource Utilization: With a streamlined display and control interface, staff can focus on priority areas without switching between multiple systems.

  • Faster Response Times: Improved visibility and coordination allow decision-makers to respond to threats or incidents more rapidly.

  • Secure Collaboration: Video conferencing tools enable high-level briefings and coordination with relevant agencies, even across remote locations.

A Step Toward Smarter Law Enforcement

With the implementation of the upgraded videowall control center, Bukit Aman has strengthened its position as a high-tech command and control hub for Malaysia’s law enforcement operations. This investment into modern audiovisual and control technologies signifies a forward-thinking approach by the Royal Malaysia Police, paving the way for more responsive, transparent, and coordinated public safety measures in the future.
